Robin Layne & Friends play music that is inspired by his travels and evokes memories of summer days full of adventure and playfulness. With roots in Jazz, Latin and African traditions this groove heavy ensemble delivers music that will uplift your spirit, put a smile on your face and take your ears on a journey into the stratosphere. Since forming in 2015 the band has been filling dance floors around Vancouver and performing at festivals across BC and beyond.

John Korsrud’s Latin Quintet

Wednesday, April 18, 8 pm
Frankie’s Jazz Club, 755 Beatty St, Vancouver BC

John Korsrud Latin Quintet plays high-energy, high-groove music from Cuba and South America, featuring tunes by composers such as Eddie Palmieri, Chucho Valdez, and Arturo Sandoval. With John Korsrud trumpet, Bill Runge saxophone, Raphael Geronimo drums, Niho Takase piano, and Ronnie Swirl bass.

Jazz at the Toast: Enemy Pigeon / Natasha D’Agostino Trio

‘Do Improvise Yourself’ presents a cozy night of music and chilling. Featuring Enemy Pigeon, a Post-Bop quintet in the mid-60s vibe, and Natasha D’Agostino Trio. (Three of Vancouver’s most killing jazz musicians and very nice people).

From New York, the hard-hitting Ken Fowser Quintet is fronted by trumpet impresario Josh Bruneau, a rising star in the jazz scene. Debuting his new highly-acclaimed album Now Hear This (Positone), Ken brings “hard bop fans a solid set of free wheeling jazz with a swagger… and with a polished sheen… that keeps your attention and swings mightily” (Audiophile Audition). With Nick Peck piano, John Lee bass, and Kelby MacNayr drums.

Guitarist Gavin Youngash is one of Vancouver’s busiest guitar players. Often heard playing with Dawn Pemberton, The Star Captains and many other psychedelic bands! On April 22, he plays his own music that fuses jazz harmony with contemporary rhythm and melody. With Eli Davidovici bass and Kai Basanta drums.

Peggy Lee’s Echo Painting Album Launch

Friday, April 20, 8 pm
The Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac St Vancouver, BC

Barking Sphinx Performance Society, Live at the Wise & Sawdust Collector Present Peggy Lee’s ‘Echo Painting’ Album Launch Party with opening sets from & collaborations with Wallgrin and A.MacKenzie. The Echo Painting project was conceived with the help of Rainbow Robert of Coastal Jazz and Blues in Vancouver. It is a new large ensemble including some of the most active and interesting improvisors on the Vancouver scene today.
