The Bill Coon Double Quartet is a true departure for Coon as the music marries his love of jazz improvising with his passion for arranging and composition. His new CD “Departure” is a project that combines the lyricism and expressiveness of a string quartet with the rhythmic drive and soloing brilliance of a jazz quartet.

Bill Coon Double Quartet

Influenced by jazz greats Jim Hall and Wes Montgomery and inspired by the writing of Bill Evans, Kenny Wheeler, and Maurice Ravel, guitarist Bill Coon’s CD “Departure” marries his love of jazz improvising with his passion for arranging and composition. The brilliant Brad Turner contributes fiercely creative and melodic solos on trumpet/flugelhorn and rounding out the ensemble are Paul Rushka bass, Bernie Arai drums, Cam Wilson and Yuel Yawney violins, Llowyn Ball viola, and Finn Manniche cello.
