Human Kind [Iteration] is an avant-jazz quintet born out of pandemic travel restrictions. The performance hosts an iteration of Cat Toren’s HUMAN KIND where Toren, a Vancouver-born pianist, has composed for the ensemble from her home in Brooklyn. Her musical style is recognized for “combining classical training with a commitment to the questing, open-ended nature of free jazz” (Brooklyn Rail). This quintet features first class members of the Vancouver music scene: Elisa Thorn, harp; Dave Say, woodwinds; Gord Grdina, oud; Karlis Silins, bass; Dan Gaucher, drums.
