“Funny thing about the Blues—You play ’em ’cause you got ’em, but when you play ’em, you lose ’em.” —Buddy Guy
Buddy Guy is returning to Vancouver three years after his sold-out 2019 Orpheum performance, but you wouldn’t know any time has passed—the 85-year-old blues veteran is as dynamic, energetic, and restless as ever. His latest album, The Blues Is Alive and Well, is a triumphant celebration of the music he has played a huge role in shaping, and features a slew of star-studded contributions from the likes of James Bay, Mick Jagger, and Jeff Beck.
Guy has won eight Grammy Awards, the Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement, and countless others. He’s been a major influence on musical giants from Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and has collaborated with other blues legends Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Sonny Boy Williamson. All this, and Guy continues to push forward with a truly astounding career, bringing joyful mastery to every performance: “I’m trying to do something to keep this music that I love so well alive.”
