Sawdust Collector Series: Chiquita Magic // Kai Basanta // Barbara Adler

Chiquita Magic is Isis Giraldo’s choral-synthpop music. Isis is interested in the cross pollination of seemingly contrasting styles (cumbia, salsa, choral music, hip-hop, jazz) with futuristic electronic textures to create new sounding and explorative songs. Kai Basanta is a Vancouver based drummer/producer. Kai blends ethereal soundscapes with off-kilter beats in his new solo project. Barbara Adler is an interdisciplinary artist whose work brings together literary performance, composition, live event production and arts education to explore the intersections between text, music, sound and theatre.

She has become a staple of the Vancouver music scene and can often be found tearin’ it up as a vocalist, teacher, facilitator, choir director and “go to girl” for live performances and studio sessions. A passionate songwriter and performer Dawn crafts her music with a sense of adventure, quirkiness, and serious groove and shapes it into her own unique and dynamic package. Tight, expressive and bold, Dawn will hit you where it counts, funk you up and make you say “Go ‘head!”

Led by groove, improv and raw, unadulterated emotion, the Bradley/McGillivray Blues Band blend blues, jazz, Motown, and gospel into its own hip brand of soul. Ruth’s a singer you don’t want to miss – captivating, authentic and entertaining. Her knock-you-flat vocals are nicely balanced by Sheldon’s tasteful, understated guitar, and the whole sound is rounded out by an inventive rhythm section. Expect a setlist of original tunes and signature versions of old favourites.
