Tonye Aganaba
David Lam Park Jazz Weekend
London-born, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Tonye Aganaba’s album Something Comfortable—inspired by Tonye’s battle with multiple sclerosis—takes on subjects like identity, addiction, and recovery, while riding neo-folk/soul/hip hop grooves that crackle with expressivity and hope. With big beats, R&B-inflected pop melodies, and powerful messages, Aganaba is “a world-building, shape-shifting, time-travelling creative” (Discorder).
With Aaron Hamblin drums, JeanSe Le Doujet bass, Thomas Hoeller guitar, and Carlos Joe Costa percussion and flute.
