Pantayo is an all-female Toronto-based ensemble that combines the percussive metallophones and drums of Southern Philippines kulintang traditions with synth-based grooves to create incomparable lo-fi R&B gong punk. Polaris Prize-shortlisted in 2020, Pantayo explore the possibilities of kulintang while “patching together practical feminism, punk ethos, Indigenous resistance, Asian visibility, queer fabulousness, and the universal thirst for new sounds” (Pan M 360).
