Kuya Quartet
Kuya (pronounced KOO-ya) is the Tagalog word for ‘brother’, commonly used as a sign of respect to an elder sibling or cousin.
Kuya Quartet explores music from the Philippines; folk melodies, classics from Filipino composers and new originals inspired by the genre. A veritable plethora of possibilities for re-imagined and adventurous interpretations. Noriega’s first foray into this concept materialized into his 2006 award-winning piano trio release “Alay.”
Kuya Quartet is a continuation of this journey with a new band, different instrumentation, and a fresh take on the traditional.
Featuring Victor Noriega piano, David Sikula guitar, James Meger bass, and Raphael Geronimo percussion.
