The brainchild of left-field composer/producer/instrument builder and multimedia artist Jay Crocker, JOYFULTALK’s kaleidoscopic sound phases giddily between analog and electronic dimensions. His fellow travelers—like the supernatural Jesse Zubot on violin and electronics and drummer Eric Hamelin—are guided by the Nova Scotia-based Croker’s graphic scores, handmade kinetic sculptures, and resurrected gear through dense, exuberant avant-jazz collages. Whether it’s the ghost in the machine, or the man behind the curtain, someone has a great ear for off-kilter melodies and widescreen, trance-inducing, futurist out-jazz.
