From New York: Peter Bernstein
Jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein has been a part of the jazz scene in New York and abroad since 1989. Peter has appeared in groups led by Sonny Rollins, Bobby Hutcherson, George Coleman, Lou Donaldson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Fathead Newman, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Diana Krall, Lee Konitz, Jimmy Cobb and many more.
There are three main aspects to Peter Bernstein’s playing that make him one of the most important jazz guitarists of his generation: First there is his incredible ability to swing—he makes every note and chord feel good, and gives the impression that playing the guitar is effortless; Second is Peter’s musical economy. There is a tendency among some musicians to equate ‘good improvising’ with the number of notes, but his approach is simply to make every note count. His improvisations have direction and meaning. Third, and perhaps most impressively, Peter’s guitar sound knocks your socks off. It’s clear, warm, and singing from top to bottom. Like a great grand piano whose eighty-eight keys sound equal and true, Peter’s rich sonority is present no matter what register he plays in.
