Feven Kidane Plays Dido & The Handpeople
Free Jazz Around Town
Formed in late-1970s Vancouver by percussionist Mandido Morris, Dido & The Handpeople were a trailblazing group dedicated to the cultural expression of Afro jazz fusion. For this performance, bassist Feven Kidane and her band—including original Dido & The Handpeople saxophonist/flutist Graham Ord—recreate the band’s energetic 1980 album Spirit Dance in its entirety. With infectious grooves, intricate rhythms, and inspired improvisation, this performance offers a rare opportunity to celebrate the iconic sounds of one of Vancouver’s most vibrant and important ensembles.
With Biboye Onanuga drums, Yoro Noukoussi percussion, Jonny Tobin synths, and Ben Millman keys.
