In September 2026, the jazz world marks the centennial of one of its greatest musicians: John Coltrane. To honour his enduring legacy, luminaries Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves unite for a remarkable tribute, revisiting Coltrane’s 1963 collaboration with Johnny Hartman.

Three-time Grammy winner and saxophonist Marsalis is one of the most influential and revered figures in contemporary music. Returning to the Chan Centre for the first time in a decade, for this concert, he leads his celebrated quartet. Over three decades, the powerhouse ensemble has become revered for its uncompromising interpretations and fearless, deeply expressive performances.

Reeves has been praised by The New York Times as “the most admired jazz diva since the heyday of Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.” A five-time Grammy winner and the pre-eminent jazz vocalist of her generation, she brings unparalleled virtuosity and emotional depth. Her career-defining collaborations and improvisational prowess have set a benchmark in vocal jazz. Reeves was last at the Chan Centre in 2020, and this performance will mark her third appearance.

Both Marsalis and Reeves have been designated a Jazz Master by The National Endowment for the Arts—the highest honour the United States bestows on jazz artists.

Together, this unparalleled duo will celebrate the singular genius of Coltrane with one of his most intimate and emotionally resonant records.

Co-presented with the Chan Centre.
