JUNO and National Jazz Award-winning trumpeter/composer Brad Turner has been an enormously influential figure on the Vancouver jazz scene since 1997, the year he co-founded the acclaimed Metalwood with saxophonist Mike Murley. For his part, the ever-evolving Murley has played on fourteen JUNO Award-winning recordings since 1990, snagging seven as leader and seven as a sideman. With Chris Gestrin piano, André Lachance bass, and Dylan van der Schyff drums, the quintet’s travels overlap with fellow explorers Kenny Wheeler, Motian/Lovano/Frisell, and some of the ECM label’s finest sonic cartographers.
