British-born, Nigerian-Canadian drummer/composer Biboye Onanuga has become a key figure in Edmonton’s music scene through his instrumental hip-hop/jazz band Good Information, his Sunday night jazz series Daze Days, and the beloved weekly jam New Standards. With Vancouver standouts Mary Ancheta keys, Gordy Li sax and bassist Lida Magnusthis, inter-provincial Quartet embodies the New Standards spirit by treating jazz as living, modern music. Bridging traditional small-combo jazz and what Biboye calls “today’s jazz”—a blend of hip-hop, rock, and ambient influences—listeners and players submit, together, to the music of the moment.
