DESCRIPTION:West Coast music nominee Leora Cashe has been blessed with a rich resounding voice that reaches into the core of the listener with an exquisite range of emotional power.  Influenced by jazz\, blues and gospel\, Leora’s passionate vocal interpretations have garnered her many accolades from her home town Vancouver\, to the US\, Europe and the UK. \nLeora is pleased to feature the brilliant Brazilian guitar stylings of Itamar Erez  along side world class local treasures\, drummer Buff Allen\, bassist Conrad Good\, and reunited with music partner Jaye Krebs on piano. Expect a swingin’ evening of standards as well as some of Leora’s own compositions along with some Brazilian grooves that celebrate sunshine\, rain and flowers.

Come and hear Steve’s robust tone and swinging\, rhythmic propulsion as his lines unwind fluidly. \nWith Chris Gestrin on piano\, Steve Holy on bass and Jesse Cahill on drums \nABOUT JAZZ FOR BARB SERIES AND THE ITALIAN CULTURAL CENTRE \nBarbara Fudge was a passionate and loyal fan of jazz music. She could be seen all over the city at various jazz events talking and laughing with her friends\, mingling with the musicians and enjoying a glass of fine wine. Her personality and laugh were contagious and although no longer with us\, her larger than life spirit shines bright. We are so happy to be able to honour her with our ‘Jazz For Barb’ Series.

Whether soul\, R&B\, torch ballads\, or songs of love (Power of Love\, A House Is Not a Home\, Superstar)\, no voice since has captured our senses quite like his. \nDonny Hathaway and Roberta Flack recorded some of the greatest duets of all time including; The Closer I Get to You\, You’ve Got a Friend\, and Where Is the Love – and both had immensely successful solo careers. \nWith Bill Sample on keys\, Nino Depasquale on drums\, Matt Reid on bass\, and Anthony Anderson on guitar.

SUMMARY:From New York: Katie Thiroux Trio
DESCRIPTION:“A multitasking talent who swings her bass with a Mack-truck-powered lilt that would make her hero Ray Brown proud\, and who transforms her smallish voice into a thing of delight” (The New Yorker)\, Katie Thiroux has become a bold standard-bearer for the emerging generation of jazz singer/instrumentalists. Following her prodigious beginnings on bass at age 8 and studies under renowned vocalist Tierney Sutton at 12\, Thiroux was mentored by the legendary bassist John Clayton and was awarded a Phil Ramone Presidential Scholarship to Berklee College of Music while gaining experience on the bandstand with artists including Terrell Safford\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Branford Marsalis\, Larry Fuller\, Jeff Clayton\, Patti Austin\, Geri Allen\, Helen Sung\, Charles McPherson\, and dozens of others. \nShe was a finalist in the 2015 Thelonious Monk International Vocals Competition\, and her debut release as a bandleader from the same year\, Introducing Katie Thiroux\, received accolades from All About Jazz\, the Huffington Post\, the Jazz Journalists Association\, and NPR Jazz\, who listed the release among their Top 5 Debut Records of the Year. She was named “Rising Star” bassist in the 2018 DownBeat Critics Poll\, is a traveling clinician for the Monterey Jazz Festival in the Schools program\, and performed a three-month residency at Quincy Jones’ Dubai jazz club in 2017. Thiroux’s newest album with her quartet\, Off Beat\, was produced by eminent drummer Jeff Hamilton and made DownBeat’s list of Best Albums of 2017. For this date\, Thiroux will be joined by her excellent working trio including drummer Matt Witek and pianist Glenn Zaleski.

DESCRIPTION:Coming off the release of his 4th album\, New York saxophonist Anderson fronts a quartet featuring some of BC’s top jazz talent. The critically celebrated Melting Pot\, also featuring Restivo with Anderson\, secured a place among the JAZZIZ best albums of 2018. ALL ABOUT JAZZ has called Anderson “unquestionably\, one of the most remarkable saxophone voices on the jazz scene today.” The quartet will feature modern compositions from the saxman’s recent recordings as well as post-bop standards. \nWith Dave Restivo on piano\, Paul Rushka on bass\, and Joe Poole on drums.
