SUMMARY:Burrows/Morena Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Carlo Morena is one of Italy’s foremost jazz pianists and has performed and recorded with musicians such as Dave Liebman\, Bob Mintzer\, John Abercrombie\, and Charlie Mariano. Morena met Vancouver guitarist Jared Burrows and the two found that they share a similar approach to composition and harmony influenced by European composers such as Kenny Wheeler and Enrico Pieranunzi. Compositions by Burrows and Morena will be presented in company with Toronto drummer Joe Sorbara\, and Jared’s long-time collaborator\, Montana bass player\, Rob Kohler. Expect an evening of intimate\, chamber jazz aesthetic. \nABOUT JAZZ FOR BARB SERIES AND THE ITALIAN CULTURAL CENTRE \nBarbara Fudge was a passionate and loyal fan of jazz music. She could be seen all over the city at various jazz events talking and laughing with her friends\, mingling with the musicians and enjoying a glass of fine wine. Her personality and laugh were contagious and although no longer with us\, her larger than life spirit shines bright. We are so happy to be able to honour her with our ‘Jazz For Barb’ Series.

They will play standards from the Great American Songbook as well as some jazz standards from Monk\, Wayne Shorter\, Horace Silver\, Clark Terry and more. Alan Matheson\, piano and trumpet\, Jazz Palley\, bass and Craig Scott\, drums \, are all veterans of the Vancouver jazz scene. Alan met Chicago’s Juli Wood\, tenor sax and vocals\, on one of his summer trips to Finland. They had such fun playing together in Helsinki\, they’ve decided to try it again in Vancouver!
