SUMMARY:Bill Coon plays Grant Green's Idle Moments
DESCRIPTION:Blue Note is unquestionably the most iconic jazz label there has ever been–maybe the most iconic record label of all time. The label’s first press release (1939) states\, “Blue Note records are concerned with identifying its impulse\, not its sensational and commercial adornments.” A pioneer in jazz’s golden age\, Blue Note served as a breeding ground for legends such as Sidney Bechet\, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers\, Kenny Burrell\, Miles Davis\, Thelonious Monk\, Bud Powell\, Sonny Rollins and Horace Silver. Now approaching its 80th year\, Blue Note remains a powerful and mighty force in the jazz world. \nNot trick or treating? Join guitarist Bill Coon as he plays music from one of his favourite Blue Note releases: Grant Green: Idle Moments \nWith Jon Bentley tenor sax\, Nick Peck organ and Joe Poole drums

SUMMARY:Noah Franche-Nolan Trio
DESCRIPTION:Noah Franche-Nolan is a Toronto-based pianist\, improviser\, and composer who has shared the bandstand with musicians such as Jim Vivian\, Peter Bernstein\, Dick Oats\, Kirk MacDonald\, Andrew Downing\, and Nick Fraser.  He has performed at the Toronto Jazz Festival\, the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, the Halifax Jazz Festival\, and the Port Hope Jazz Festival. \nHe recently opened for the Dave Young Trio and the Penderecki String Quartet at the Perry Sound “Festival of Sound” with a set of original piano compositions. In the Spring of 2018\, Noah recorded a duo album with Toronto Saxophonist Harrison Argatof\, entitled “Dreaming Hears the Still”. This record features original compositions by both Noah and Harrison\, and explores the blending of improvisation and through-composed musical passages. As a composer\, Noah has studied jazz composition and piano with David Braid\, and classical composition with Gary Kulesha and Sasha Rapoport. He continuously strives to blend the lines between the musical and improv vocabulary of Western Classical Music and Modern Jazz in his own compositions.
