DESCRIPTION:Prodigious young talents performing jazz music and the American Songbook have gone back to the beginnings of the genre – artists like Ella Fitzgerald and even Judy Garland were blowing away listeners of all ages with their talent\, incredible tone and sense of swing from their teenage years and beyond. \nThis phenomenon has led to an ongoing output of incredible female singers over the decades\, that continues today with Vancouver-based\, 16 year-old singer\, musician and composer\, Maya Rae. Maya is inspired by musicians like Ella Fitzgerald\, Billie Holiday\, Nina Simone and The Beatles\, and modern-day artists like Jamie Cullum\, Megan Trainor\, Ed Sheeran\, and Adele. This is not uncommon with singers today – growing up in an iTunes or Spotify generation\, young artists can find themselves listening to a compilation of hundreds of songs from dozens of genres\, all in one session. It has led to a generation that is blind to genre or musical confines – the key is to find a balance in these influences\, allowing the listener a musical experience and journey in concert that is entertaining and enlightening. \nIn her short career as a performer\, Maya has found that balance and is becoming a meaningful storyteller on the stage. \nWith John Lee on piano\, and Luis Rudner on bass.

DESCRIPTION:Flora Scott is releasing her third CD which is comprised of all original tunes composed by Scott. The genre includes blends of  jazz\, Latin\, singer-songwriter and middle-eastern jazz. There are 12 international musicians on the recording\, which was produced partly in Canada and partly at a studio just outside of London\, England. \nFlora is a jazz guitarist\, vocalist and songwriter. She has studied voice with Dee Daniels and briefly with Jay Clayton in New York as well as guitar\, and now performs in and around Vancouver and Victoria. \nThe Flora Scott Quintet includes Nick Apivor vibes and percussion\, Graham Clark bass\, Buff Allen on drums and Victor Noriega on piano.

DESCRIPTION:Through years of touring and collaborating with Juno Award-winning performers\, Eliana Cuevas has grown into an accomplished singer-songwriter and bandleader with unlimited colours in her compositional and lyrical palette. Among her honours are the National Jazz Award for Latin Jazz Artist of the Year\, two Toronto Independent Music Awards for Best World Music Artist\, an Independent Music Award for Best Latin Album\, and a nomination in the World Solo Artist of the Year category at the Canadian Folk Music Awards 2018. Eliana has released five albums of original Latin music to this date: Cohesión (2001)\, Ventura (2004)\, Vidas (2007)\,  Espejo (2013)\, and most recently Golpes y Flores (2017). \nWith her latest album Eliana has created a beautiful musical love letter to her native land of Venezuela that integrates Afro-Venezuelan rhythms with her own Latin Jazz sound. Eliana will perform original selections from her most recent recording accompanied by a stellar line-up of musicians.

DESCRIPTION:Six-time Juno nominee John Stetch brings his New York quartet Vulneraville to Frankie’s Jazz Club in celebration of Stetch’s 15th album The Vancouver Concert (recorded this past May). \nA native of Edmonton\, pianist John Stetch pushes the boundaries of his jazz and classical training to incorporate melodies from all around the world and across American culture: from Mozart to Ukrainian folk music to the theme from The Love Boat. John has toured extensively in the United States and overseas\, performing and collaborating with classical and world musicians and jazz greats such as Rufus Reid\, Seamus Blake\, and Mark Turner. John has released 14 albums as a leader\, and won the Prix du Jazz award at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. John recently relocated from New York to Vancouver. \nVulneraville’s music ranges from energetic swing to world/pop suites to classical-ish cinematic excursions. “This personnel is my best chemistry and most devoted team yet!” says Stetch. Cincinnati-born Steve Kortyka is a saxophonist who has been touring with Lady Gaga whenever she does her jazz project\, plus working on a variety of other jazz projects in New York. Philippe Lemm is Holland’s most in-demand drummer\, a busy leader in his own right\, who has studied Indian and funk music extensively\, and 25-year-old Rochester native Ben Tiberio has already played bass in the top clubs of New York City.

With over 130 albums to date as an accompanist\, Colligan has worked with a long list of jazz greats\, including Buster Williams\, Cassandra Wilson\, Don Byron\, Ravi Coltrane\, and many others. HIs latest album\, “Nation Divided“ (Whirlwind Records) is his 30th as a bandleader. DESCRIPTION:Noah Franche-Nolan is a Toronto-based pianist\, improviser\, and composer who has shared the bandstand with musicians such as Jim Vivian\, Peter Bernstein\, Dick Oats\, Kirk MacDonald\, Andrew Downing\, and Nick Fraser.  He has performed at the Toronto Jazz Festival\, the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, the Halifax Jazz Festival\, and the Port Hope Jazz Festival. \nHe recently opened for the Dave Young Trio and the Penderecki String Quartet at the Perry Sound “Festival of Sound” with a set of original piano compositions. In the Spring of 2018\, Noah recorded a duo album with Toronto Saxophonist Harrison Argatof\, entitled “Dreaming Hears the Still”. This record features original compositions by both Noah and Harrison\, and explores the blending of improvisation and through-composed musical passages. As a composer\, Noah has studied jazz composition and piano with David Braid\, and classical composition with Gary Kulesha and Sasha Rapoport. He continuously strives to blend the lines between the musical and improv vocabulary of Western Classical Music and Modern Jazz in his own compositions.

SUMMARY:Tony Wilson's Tribute to Sonny Greenwich
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist Tony Wilson\, pianist Chris Gestrin\, bassist André Lachance and drummer Dylan van der Schyff pay tribute to the great Canadian guitarist Sonny Greenwich. Sonny Greenwich came to prominence in the 1970s and his career spanned several decades. His very original style combines the phrasing of jazz great Grant Green and the spiritual qualities of John Coltrane’s music. The band will be performing tunes by Sonny and a few original compositions by Tony Wilson.
