Waiting list/standing room tickets may be available at the door starting at 7pm. \nGordon Grdina has managed to place a finger in every corner of the jazz/world fusion room. —Pop Matters  \nComplex\, intricate\, idiosyncratic\, and rockin’—those are the adjectives that best describe this cross-border collaboration between Vancouver guitarist Gordon Grdina\, and New York’s Matt Mitchell piano\, and Jim Black drums. Juno Award winner Grdina’s compositions give the nod to 20th century classical composition\, rock\, free jazz\, and third stream\, and this trio promises to explore those ideas at their highest levels. \nGordon Grdina is known for his incredible versatility and ability to bring a fresh and edgy vibe to any ensemble he joins or forms. His musical output is diverse\, including 10-piece Arabic/avant-garde ensemble Haram\, the intricate GG Quartet and cinematic GG Septet\, high-energy collective Grdina/Houle/Loewen\, free-punk duo Peregrine Falls\, and contemporary Persian-influenced ensembles Qalandar and The Marrow. \nJim Black is a legend in the downtown New York jazz and improv scene and a world-renowned drummer. His most recent Vancouver appearances include gigs with Endangered Blood\, Banda de los Muertos\, and Human Feel. \nMatt Mitchell is a mainstay on the New York jazz scene playing with internationally acclaimed ensembles like the Dave Douglas Quintet and John Hollenbeck’s Large Ensemble. Things are happening out west.” — CBC Radio \nSteve Kozak has been a mainstay on the west coast blues scene since the mid-eighties. Backed by his some of Vancouver’s top musicians Kozak has built a reputation as the go to guy in Vancouver for tasty blues guitar\, who has shared the stage with the likes of Duke Robillard and James Harman. Kozak won a prestigious Maple Blues Award for New Artist or Group of the Year in 2012 and the group was nominated for a 2017 Western Canadian Music Award as Blues Artist of the Year by Break Out West.

DESCRIPTION:Vancouver vocalists Lorraine Foster and Karin Plato share a love of songs from the Great American Songbook: lyrics that tell stories of the heart and melodies that crave being sung. Since the early 90s the two ladies have been friends\, performing various duet shows together with a natural ease and chemistry. Their program features a variety of duets and solo repertoire\, arrangements of familiar standards along with some lesser known songs. \nOriginally from Toronto\, Lorraine sang with Dal Richards and his orchestra for 11 years. She performed and recorded with legendary pianists Linton Garner and with internationally acclaimed Oliver Jones. Karin\, originally from Saskatchewan has called Vancouver home since 1985 where she continues to compose\, record and perform a variety of music styles. With Dan Reynolds piano\, Paul Rushka bass\, and Buff Allen drums.
