DESCRIPTION:“His [Smith’s] first album as a composer and bandleader on the iconic ECM label burns with a subtle heat.” —Pitchfork \nThis exciting trio returns to Vancouver with three of the most notable musicians in New York’s vibrant creative music scene—drummer Ches Smith (John Zorn\, Tim Berne\, Marc Ribot)\, pianist Craig Taborn (Chris Potter\, Dave Douglas\, Wadada Leo Smith)\, and violist Mat Maneri (Marilyn Crispell\, Paul Motian). \nOriginally formed as a one-off impromptu session\, this exceptional trio combines spare compositions by Smith augmented with plenty of space for white-hot improvisation. The group’s 2016 debut release on ECM\, The Bell\, revelled in the contrast between furious grooves and subtle stillness; dramatic tension and quiet mystery.
