DESCRIPTION:“Cohen demonstrates his remarkable range and abilities\, which evoke both Chick Corea and Earl “Fatha” Hines at his most adventurous.” —WGBO \nRapidly establishing himself as Vancouver’s (and the world’s) favourite piano player\, Emmet Cohen\, swings through town with his all-star trio. \nCohen was last in town during the 2018 festival with special guest Houston Person\, but this intimate Frankie’s Jazz Club appearance will give audiences a chance to appreciate his extraordinary piano playing fully. Audience members will be treated to a master class in stylistic juxtapositions\, including the melding of stride\, blues\, church\, bebop\, free\, and contemporary styles\, resulting in the innovative sound of swing’s future. \nCohen has noted that playing jazz\, “is enriched immeasurably by connecting and studying with jazz masters\, forging backward to the very creation of the art form.” Don’t miss an opportunity to see where those studies have taken this contemporary master. \nSecond show: November 17!
