SUMMARY:Cory Weeds Quartet play Jackie McLean
DESCRIPTION:Jackie McLean was a remarkably intense and frenetic alto saxophonist who produced numerous hard bop classics during the 50s and 60s. He made his recording debut with Miles Davis in 1951 and the rest of the decade could be considered his apprenticeship. McLean worked with George Wallington\, Charles Mingus\, and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers (1956-1958). He also participated on a string of jam session-flavoured records for Prestige and New Jazz before he found a home at Blue Note for whom he recorded 21 albums as a leader and numerous more as a sideman. With Chris Gestrin piano\, Paul Rushka bass\, and Julian MacDonough drums. \nABOUT ITALIAN CULTURAL CENTRE \nIl Centro Italian Cultural Centre is located in the heart of East Vancouver\, and has been an essential part of Vancouver’s cultural landscape since its opening in 1977. Following a mandate of promoting Italian culture\, values and heritage and to share these values and traditions with other communities\, Il Centro is Vancouver’s direct connection to Italian culture and is a space for language\, music\, food\, arts\, community initiatives\, and much more. \nBarbara Fudge was a passionate and loyal fan of jazz music. She could be seen all over the city at various jazz events talking and laughing with her friends\, mingling with the musicians and enjoying a glass of fine wine. Her personality and laugh were contagious and although no longer with us\, her larger than life spirit shines bright. Her legacy continues with the Jazz For Barb series.
