SUMMARY:Bill Coon Double Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist Bill Coon’s CD “Departure” is a project that combines the lyricism and expressiveness of a string quartet with the rhythmic drive and soloing brilliance of a jazz quartet. \nThe Bill Coon Double Quartet is a true departure for Coon as the music marries his love of jazz improvising with his passion for arranging and composition. Jazz greats Jim Hall and Wes Montgomery influenced the guitar style\, while the style of Bill Evans\, Kenny Wheeler\, and Maurice Ravel inspired much of the writing. The brilliant Brad Turner contributes fiercely creative and melodic solos on trumpet/flugelhorn. Rounding out the ensemble are Brad Turner on trumpet\, flugelhorn\, Paul Rushka on acoustic bass\, Bernie Arai on drums\, Cameron Wilson on violin\, Yuel Yawney on violin\, Genevieve MacKay on viola and Finn Manniche cello.
