WILLIE JONES III QUINTET
Time 8:00 pm
Willie Jones III, one of the world’s top jazz drummers and producers, performs tunes from his latest album, Groundwork, in addition to a repertoire that has influenced his hard bop philosophy.
Known for his distinct style of rhythmic expression, the first-call drummer has lent his supple rhythm and spirit to jazz’s most important artists including Cedar Walton, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove and more. Today, Jones proves to be one of jazz music’s most sought out leaders and producers, as he was named in Downbeat Critics’ Poll Rising Star Drums and Producer categories.
Jones, who “never fails to assemble a strong crew” (NY Times) convenes virtuosos Eric Reed (piano), Ralph Moore (saxophones), Jeremy Pelt (trumpet) and Gerald Cannon (bass) for this special engagement.
This project is supported in part by an award from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation through the Western Jazz Presenters Network
