MILES BLACK TRIO with guest CORY WEEDS play GENE AMMONS plus MAYA RAE
Time 7:30 pm
Gene "Jug" Ammons was one of the tenor giants of his era. He had a big, deep tone that was perfect for everything from warm ballads to groove-intensive blues, or sweet swing. He could blow with the best, too. Ammons' record label, Prestige, allowed him to record prolifically in the '50s and early '60s because he was so popular. Boss Tenor, recorded in 1960, was arguably his most well known album. Join pianist Miles Black and his trio: André Lachance –bass and Joel Fountain – drums and special guest Cory Weeds – tenor saxophone, as they re-create this album and other Gene Ammons tunes! An opening set by Maya Rae with the above quartet will get you warmed up.
Maya Rae has developed her love for music and performing since she was a young child. At just 14 years old, Maya’s captivating studio recordings and music videos have acquired national attention on CBC Radio, Roundhouse Radio and other social media outlets around the world.
