South Africa Now! Concert Series:

The great South African drummer’s fires still burn brightly at 74. He’s making some of the great jazz of his time”—The Guardian. Originally from Cape Town, drummer/composer Louis Moholo-Moholo was exiled to the UK during the tumult of the mid-sixties and made a hugely important contribution to the British jazz scene. Full of fireworks and passion, Moholo-Moholo’s cutting edge approach also has great meditative power. He’s collaborated with Derek Bailey, Steve Lacy, Peter Brötzmann, and countless others. Now based in his homeland, his collective- minded quartet features pianist Alexander Hawkins, whose wide-ranging style moves “from stride piano to all-out Cecil Taylor-inspired mayhem” (All About Jazz), John Edwards bass, and Jason Yarde saxophones.
