DUKE ELLINGTON'S "THE FAR EAST SUITE"
Time 8:00 pm
Montreal saxophonist Ted Crosby leads this band of local talent in an ambitious reinterpretation of Duke Ellington's 1966 album The Far East Suite. The original piece was inspired by the Ellington band's trip to India, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Turkey, and Japan in the early 1960s. Think Eastern melodies with a jazz mentality and hints of the blues, rock and avant-garde. Ted Crosby is a US native based in Montreal for the last ten years. His arrangement will pay tribute to the original recordings while adding some modern twists and turns of his own. With Ted Crosby arranging, saxophone, clarinets, Paris Favilla on sax, JP Carter on trumpet, Brad Turner on trumpet, John Korsrud on trumpet, Rod Murray on trombone, Sky Lambourne on trombone, Cole Schmidt on guitar, Tony Wilson on guitar, James Meger on bass, Omar Amlani on drums, and Josh Zubot violin.
