About the Artists

One of Norway’s most extraordinary artists, pianist/composer Håvard Wiik first made his mark in Vancouver at the Jazz Festival with the Scandinavian powerhouse quintet Atomic several years ago. His sensitive, lyrical playing and ability to traverse mainstream traditions while plying more open approaches was a hit with audiences. Besides Atomic, Wiik also works with Free Fall (Ken Vandermark, Ingebrigt Haker Flaten), Atomic Schooldays, a duo with Hakon Kornstad, and a new project with Axel Dorner and Fredrik Ljungqvist. He’s also collaborated with jazz giants Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler, and Lee Konitz. His acclaimed new trio finds him performing with Hakon Mjaset Johansen drums and Ole Morten Vågan bass, and together they present a fresh view on the classic piano trio format. The group’s CD The Arcades Project (Jazzland) finds Wiik on top of his game as composer, pianist, and bandleader. Thanks to Royal Norwegian Embassy in Canada
