July 17, 1967 marks the day that one of, if not, THE most significant saxophonist the jazz world has ever seen passed away. John William Coltrane, also known as "Trane" helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and was later at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions during his career, and appeared as a sideman on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk. As his career progressed, Coltrane and his music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension. Coltrane influenced innumerable musicians. Join Vancouver saxophonists Steve Kaldestad and Mike Allen as they pay tribute to the master. Allen will perform Trane's Love Supreme in its entirety and Steve Kaldestad will play selections from his 1961 recording My Favorite Things. With Miles Black on piano.
