Jazz legend and great thinker Wayne Shorter once said, “You need resistance to take off.”

He was comparing the struggle of making music, pushing boundaries of self and art to that of an airplane preparing to fly. He eloquently affirmed that struggling is a necessary part of the creative process, it is what propels people, thoughts, art and music forward. I find this extremely comforting and inspiring. Surrender to the struggle. His playing is unbound and free, the kind of free that only exists when there is no fear. It is exquisite.

Forever changing and exploring, shifting and expanding…listen to Wayne Shorter soar on his ballad, “Infant Eyes” from his classic album Speak No Evil.
