Just back from playing The Winnipeg Folk Festival 2016, Daphne Roubini ”First Lady of Uke” sings and plays the Ukulele in her band Black Gardenia, the Vancouver-based five-piece whose "London Jazz meets Americana" sound has delighted festival and club audiences on two continents. With their unique, darkly-relaxed blend of vintage jazz, country, folk and blues from the 20′s, 30′s and 40′s, Black Gardenia takes listeners on a journey to an age where cool meant classy and noir was the norm.
“…evocative vocalist, Daphne Roubini, who sounds at once retro (think Billie Holiday and Madeleine Peyroux) and yet cheekily modern and on trend.” - Georgia Mancio, Artistic Director and founder, ‘Revoice’ Festival, London, UK.
