WHY VOLUNTEER?
The 27th TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival
June 22 - July 1, 2012
The TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival is one of Vancouver’s largest annual festivals, presenting hundreds of artists working in traditional, contemporary, and evolving forms of jazz, blues, world, creative, and improvised music, playing in 35 venues over 10 days. It’s a huge undertaking, and wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of over 500 volunteers who give their time, energy and enthusiasm every year to see it happen. Volunteering for the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and Coastal Jazz’s year-round programming, is a great way to hear amazing music, make new friends & spend time with old ones, contribute to the arts and music community, and gain work experience and school credit.
How the volunteer program works
1) You, the volunteer, fill out the volunteer application webform (see below) to let the Volunteer Department know which crews you would like to volunteer for, and your availability.
2) In May, Volunteer Coordinators pass the names and contact info of volunteers with up-to-date applications onto crew schedulers.
3) The crew scheduler contacts you by phone or email, to schedule you into whichever of the 25 crews and over 100 different jobs that you expressed interest in. These schedulers are volunteers as well, and have to fit in their scheduling duties just like any volunteer, so this step can take some time.
4) You receive confirmation from your scheduler that you have been scheduled for shifts, and you start to receive information and update emails from your crew and the Volunteer Coordinators
5) In late May and early June, you receive, fill out and return your hard ticket selection form and attend your Crew Orientation session
6) One week before the Festival, you arrive at the Volunteer Centre to pick up your info packet, T-shirt and Volunteer Pass
7) During the Festival, you work your shifts, see some shows, and have a fantastic and rewarding Festival experience
8) After the Festival is complete, you attend the Volunteer Party, wind down and give feedback about your experience, the volunteer department and the Festival in general.
How to REGISTER
This is the link to the Volunteer Registration Webform. Fill it out, & once you click Submit, your information goes straight to the Volunteer department for assessment.
If you cannot complete the registration form online (our preferred method), please come by our office and we can assist you in filling it out.
All volunteers, returning and new, MUST fill out the registration form in order to volunteer. This guarantees that we have your most up-to-date contact information, availability and crew interests. When you fill out the webform, the information goes directly into the volunteer database, freeing the Volunteer Coordinators from having to enter your data manually, thus leaving them free to spend more one-on-one time with you, to address more pressing matters. We appreciate your understanding on this, and thank you for supporting us by following the new procedure.
