Way Out Northwest
A trio since 2007, this collaboration between British saxophonist John Butcher and the Vancouver-based bassist Torsten Müller and drummer Dylan van der Schyff unites three intrepid improvisers. Each possesses an astonishing array of techniques, and the resulting music is dynamic, detailed, and expressive. Their eponymous CD (Drip Audio) is riveting.
These three musicians have extensive credits, having performed with most of the important musicians on the improvised music scene; including John Stevens, Derek Bailey, Gunter Christmann, Dave Douglas, Paul Lovens, Axel Dorner to name a few. John Butcher is recognized as one of the most important saxophone innovators of his generation. The trios will only be performing at the Vancouver and Ottawa Festivals on this short tour.
