Twin Shadow is the moniker for twenty-something American musician George Lewis Jr. Last year he released his debut album Forget, produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear. The album has a discernibly 1980s new wave vibe with an array of synth sounds from strings and organ to piano and brass, along with electric guitar and octopad drums. The vocals sometimes recall Morrissey and the music Echo and the Bunnymen and Depeche Mode, but Lewis’ brand of retro, electro-tinged soul-balladry with its big choruses and big drama manages to turn familiar sounds into something personal, distinct and quite dazzling.
