Pat Metheny
An Evening with Pat Metheny
w/ Larry Grenadier
Pat Metheny’s musical versatility is nearly without peer on any instrument. Over the years, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Milton Nascimento, and David Bowie. He has been part of a writing team with keyboardist Lyle Mays for more than twenty years, an association that has been compared to the Lennon/McCartney and Ellington/Strayhorn partnerships by critics and listeners alike. Metheny's body of work includes compositions for solo guitar, small ensembles, electric and acoustic instruments, large orchestras, and ballet pieces, with settings ranging from modern jazz to rock to classical. The thing that makes this ever-changing artist so special is the astoundingly consistent level of commitment and quality that he brings to everything he does.
Pat Metheny’s new acoustic solo guitar album, What's It All About, features classic tunes from songwriters Paul Simon, Lennon and McCartney, Burt Bacharach, Henry Mancini and more. Pat describes it like this: "I wanted to record some of the music that was on my radar before I ever wrote a note of my own, or in a few cases, even before I played an instrument."
