Pianist/composer Antonio Ciacca carries the torch of the great Italian-American jazz tradition that began in 1917 when the first jazz record was cut in New Orleans by Nick LaRocca and the Original Dixie 'Jass' Band. Performing music from their 2016 Cellar Live release, Volare, The Italian American Songbook, the group explores the music of Henry Mancini, Harry Warren (aka Salvatore Guaragna), and Frankie Laine plus Ciacca originals written for Italian jazz masters like Scott LaFaro and Joe Lovano. The sublime quintet features fellow Italian talent Ben Benack III trumpet/vocals, Cory Weeds tenor saxophone, Ken Lister bass and Kelby MacNayr drums.
